Pet Care As Component Of Home Health Care: Why Not?

You may have seen the video footage on CNN of a daring rescue by a young man of an elderly woman whose car she was driving plunged into a rampaging floodwater.

After the woman was pulled out from her submerged car, she pleaded her rescuer to find her dog, too. At first the young man hesitated sensing how dangerous it was to do so, but the woman was quite unrelenting. She said she would not leave until her pet dog was rescued, too.

Despite the looming danger, the rescuer acceded to the woman’s determined plea. Luckily, the dog was saved to the utter delight of its owner.

Or you may have followed the story of a German flight attendant who befriended a stray dog in Argentina. Every time the flight attendant visited Buenos Aires, the stray would spend time waiting on its friend outside the hotel where the flight stewardess was billeted. The same scenario would be repeated many times over for a period of time. The story ended in the flight attendant adopting the dog and bringing him home to Germany.

Pet’s Healing Presence

Not only is pet a man’s (and woman’s) best friend. Its mere presence can help his master speed up recovery from some illness. Pets provide joy to its owner, make him calm down when he’s agitated.

In many instances, pets are the only ones left to accompany aging people after their children have already established their own abode elsewhere.
